My Dad worked at Alcoa and got a minimum of 3 weeks vacation every year.  Every 5 years he got a 10 week vacation.  My parents were very frugal and we were able to take yearly vacations all over the country as well as cross the border into Mexico and several times to Canada.  We actually have been to all of the southern Providences!  I think that my parents tried to plan the trips to maximize the number of states later in the years.  We actually were in 4 states at once when we visited Four Corners, USA!  All of us in the family have traveled independently to Hawaii over the years and we all took a family cruise together last summer to Alaska since none of us had been there.  It was spectacular.  Both Alaska and the time we were able to spend together on one last family vacation!  It was priceless!

Lucky- You already answered my question about how you managed to have lived in every state plus Jamaica and Venezuela, etc.  i just want to say that if you have lived in JA, you youhave lived. I just have one complaint; the sea is never that murky looking. It is always a deeper, clearer blue. Also, Venezuela was much better when I lived there several years ago. Did you climb the Avila?

Lucky, I missed that you lived in Venezuela!!! Me too!! I lived in Caracas back in the 50's and early 60's during the revolution. In fact, according to my mother, I introduced Peanut Butter to the Hotel Taminaco and my Dad introduced ice tea to them...where we lived for the first year while our house was being built. I use to have Eater egg hunts in the Andes Mtns.

I wrote in my meme: "I have physically been in every state in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.  I have also been to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Venezuela (Don't Go There!). "  I have always lived just in Davenport, Iowa but have traveled extensively.  I was in Venezuela for 3 days that was not fun.  It involved M-16s!  No thanks, won't do that again. 

You probably saw that Eloise commented after she misread my post.  Sorry.  You'll have to write about your good experiences there.

Thanks for the comment.  Plantain is an acquired taste, just like sushi ( did I just compared plantain to sushi? LOL).  Sorry you did not like Venezuela,  it is a crazy country to live and not tourist friendly, unfortunately. There are many natural amazing places like Angel's fall, and some beautiful Islands like Margarita and Coche, but you are right I rather visit here where you are safer and it is easier to travel and as beautiful as anywhere else. My personal goal is to travel the whole country, like you.  ^_^

Thanks for your work with MDA.  I have supported them for over 30 years.  Did you ever hear of the years when Bob Griese with the Miami Dolphins teamed up with ERA real estate to form the ERA BOB GRIESE SPORTSTACULAR?  It was a multi-faceted sporting event held in different cities all across the US.  They were held in the early 80's when I was a Realtor with an ERA real estate franchise.
