The Mayor of Minneapolis, R.T. Rybak, and the City Council asked residents to observe a moment of silence at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, which was the time that the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed during rush hour last Wednesday.  See complete story from CNN.com.

It was indeed a tragedy but it was good to see the local people pull together to try to help the survivors.

Hi,

Did you take these pictures?  Some of them are very powerful.....of course they all give us a sense of the tragety, but a few really stood out.  this reminds me of here in CA during one of the earthquakes where the bridges broke like that one........

I think it is very very lucky that so few people lost their lives that day, although the psychological scars can't be counted.  As you said Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved directly or indirectly.....

Lucky, I have no idea.  Sure didn't check that one before I sent it. LOL!  I'm guessing it was the graphic reply.

Amber,

Good to hear from you!  I've been missing those wonderful oreo truffles!

These pictures are so graphic and clear that I wanted to share them with our community.

Take care,

Lucky :)

Lucky, those are some pretty powerful photos. The pain and anguish as well as loss are all very evident. For those that past, it was too soon and for those that are didn't and those that witnessed it will be something that will forever live in their memories. What an incredible tragedy.

Gena,

It is just amazing that more people weren't killed in this mess!  Undoubtedly, more would have been had it not been for the countless heroes along the way.

Lucky, I was looking at these photos just now, and through my screen door I heard a car wreck, had to call 911.  Talk about timing.  (Sounded like screeeeeech THUMP-thump-thump.)

Sarah,

That would be very creepy!  Was everyone alright?

Luckily fewer people lost their lives than thought originally.

Looking at these pictures is creepy reminder of my experience on the Bay Bridge in '89, listening to the A's during the World Series on the radio as traffic came to a screeching stop.

Those that were around the Bay around that time remember how scary it was...

My prayers go out to the families of the victims.

Lucky, I was in my jammies and don't have any first aid training -- I figured I would be a distraction at best, so I didn't go out there.  Cops were on the way, and we're a stone's throw from emergency help here.  I just said a prayer and made the call.  But the timing was creepy!

Mystery Guest,

I'll bet that was scary!

Sarah,

In your jammies, yes, you probably would've been a distraction! ;)

Lucky, I have a self-imposed ban on the news on myself.  I never watch so I missed the visuals on this tragedy.  These are the first pictures I see.  They're very touching.  So many people started out their day in a normal way and some not making it home that night.  My prayers are with the families who lost loved ones as well as the many who have some healing and recovering to do.

Maggie,

You are smart!  I try to read and watch just enough to keep informed but not enough to bring me down!  As you know, there is a fine line.

13 people lost their lives, thousands of others impacted, horrible event.

These pictures really drive it home!  How absolutely horrific.  It really makes you stop and think how we take for granted our daily lives.

Amazing photos that are difficult to look at but it is refreshing to see how the community has pulled together. I hope that the many injured individuals are having a sppedy recovery and that the families that lost loved ones will be able to find peace someday.
