You may know FSBO & LTV but what about OOC & OMC?

 The Thinker

In today's fast-paced abbreviated world we find acronyms everywhere we go.  Frequently, in the author's need for speed we are left behind (at least I am) with jumbled letters and frustration!  If you think that big brother Webster will help, guess again.  The majority of today's abbreviations can't be found in the dictionary.  A lot of these are codes that were created to give exclusivity or connectiveness to a group of people in their everyday communication.  NCLB is often used by teachers/educators but most of us don't recognize it unless we hear No Child Left Behind.  If a closing agent said you'll be able to get your commission check after TTC wouldn't you want to know when that is?  BTW (By The Way) it means "Time To Close financing and have the check clear".

For you parents out there thinking that your child is talking about business when they write POS (frequently referring to Point Of Sale or Point Of Service for merchandizing materials in sales) or you may think they are working on their English homework (Parts Of Speech) when they are really tipping their IM (Instant Message) counterpart not to send any provocative message because "Parent Over Shoulder"!  I'm sure your little darling child wasn't going to do anything that you didn't approve of, right?Angel

Okay, help is on the way!  There is a website: http://www.stands4.com/ that will help you with most of your queries.  You can even do searches under a particular industry.  I'm sure there are a lot of you tech-savvy people out there that already knew about this (maybe some of you helped edit it) but it is my new friend as I try to navigate through #:-) and LOL (Shocked and Laughing Out Loud) and other seemingly meaningless keystrokes.

With Lucky, WYSIWYG! (What You See Is What You Get)  I'm just a plain-speaking guy from Iowa trying to make a living helping people realize their dreams through home ownership.

For those of you that don't know the above acronyms and don't want to look them up, FSBO (For Sale By Owner) LTV (Loan To Value) OOC (Out Of Cash) and OMC (Owner May Carry) are the answers to my title question.

Do you know of any sites out there that can assist your fellow rainers?  Please share!

CUL8R (See You Later),

Lucky :)

AFAIK, IIRC, it is written in the sands of time you will never keep up with the kids ability to form new code-speak.

What ever happened to good, old-fashioned Pig Latin? Good article Lucky and thanks for the link. The title sucked me in and the article had me grinning.

Hey brother Lucky,

Nice link for lookups and great blog.  We may need to add the AR acronyms in there.  Back on 11-11-06 I wrote about Active Rain acronyms.  http://activerain.com/blogsview/20039/AR-s-Acronym-Decoder

Mike: Two more I didn't know, but found thanks to my new friend!

Mark: Ix Nay the Ig Pay Atin Lay!  Does that bring back memories or what?

Bryant: IAROTFLWPIMPA?  It didn't come up when I searched it.  You've got us perplexed! HELP!  Does it start with "I Am Really ..." .  Just guessing.  Come on BB, give it up. :)

Teri: That's a great idea!

Rob: I'll check it out.

Randy: I agree!  I've been out of the loop (or Rain) for a while. How did things go for you last month?

All: Thanks for reading and commenting!

Your post was just nominated for some extra exposure!

:)

Posted by Mark Flanders (Consulting) over 12 years ago

Congrats Lucky on getting the extra exposure.  Mark (and Rich) are great bloggers out in Silverdale WA area "relatively" near where Eula and I used to live and just across Pugent Sound from Seattle where we flew into last July with you.

Rich used to work in my office before I started with Realty Executives here in Lawrence KS and has an excellent reputation back here.

LoL, great post dad. I'm shocked it took you this long to find a website to decode all of this "online mumbo jumbo" that everyone says to you =P

I guess if you didn't grow up with technology like the internet / PCs then  it could be very hard to learn quickly. I wonder if when i'm YOUR age if I will ever be in shock of what times used to be like!

Posted by Lucky Lang, II (Personal Investor) over 12 years ago

Mark: Thanks alot for the nomination.  I am honored!

Maureen: WOW! Those are really far out!  I would never have figured those out!

Rob: Thanks for the additional info!

Lucky, II: Whadda ya mean, "...when I'm YOUR age...".  Well I otta...ahh heck, you're too young to know the 3 Stooges!

Thanks to all for the comments!

HEY!  Has anyone figured out the one that BB put in here?

I am guessing IAROTFLWPIMPA is probably something like:

I Am Rolling On The Floor Laughing While P**ing In My Pants Alternatively?

The "A" at the end is the one I am not sure about.  I suppose the "A" could be Almost.

Posted by Rob Lang, Local Expert in Lawrence Kansas Real Estate Homes (At Home Kansas Team Powered by Keller Williams Partners Inc / www.AskRobLang.com) over 12 years ago

Rob: I am crying right now I'm laughing so hard!  I can't believe you wrote that! That is too funny!

Lucky :)  :)  :)

Well, the suspense is over!

TLW just cracked the code!

IAROTFLWPIMPA

"I Am Rolling On The Floor Laughing While Peeing In My Pants Again" is the correct translation.

NOW, I can go to bed!  Good night!

Nick,

Cool dude!  How did you do your signature?

Lucky :)

Posted by Lucky Lang, Marco Island & Naples Florida Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty Marco Island) over 12 years ago

DB Lucky,

Nick and Laurie have graphic signatures.  If you do a control A on this page to select everything, you will see the photo/graphic boxes of their sigs.  Click here to see the Nick graphic spin.  Sorry Nick, didn't mean to make you dizzy.  No disrespect intended.  I know Nick could take my photo and make me spin or put my face on the back side of a donkey, etc.  Obviously, you could do this same thing with a SOLD sign, etc. on your website to attract attention or to annoy people to never want to come back depending on their outlook.

To keep in context with your acronym blog topic, I guess the acronym would be:

TSIAG

(The Signature Is A Graphic)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thanks, Rob.

But at the risk of repeating myself (twice already), how do you do them?

Lucky :)

Posted by Lucky Lang, Marco Island & Naples Florida Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty Marco Island) over 12 years ago

Hi Lucky.. sorry in the delay to respond.  My signature is simply a paper signed with a sharpie, and then scanned with a scanner or photographed with a dig camera. Then you just 'crop' it, which is to make it smaller in size and selecting the area just around the sig and your done.   Then you can to add it to your comments like any other picture.    let me know if you need help with it.  Also, check out

Fran White's blog, where I asked her abour her 'Active Rain' graphic...  http://activerain.com/blogsview/34035/There-s-Hope-on

She sent me to a link to do the AR sig myself.. (look for smirnoff font).. http://www.dafont.com/bitmap.php

Posted by Nick M., Realtor-Appraiser in West Palm-South Florida Real Estate Appraiser (Certified Residential Appraiser- West Palm Beach Real Estate) over 12 years ago

Gee...  do I have to give away all their secrets, DB??  1) Take a piece of paper.  2) Write your name on it the way you want it to appear. 3) Scan the piece of paper at the angle you want your signature to appear.  4) Using your photo editing software that came with your printer or your purchased software, crop the scan of the signature.  5) Make any additional highlights, shapes, lines, etc. that you want and save it as a .jpg file.  6) I know you know this step.  Using the "tree" icon on the AR comment toolbar insert the graphic at the end of your comment.  7) If all else fails, fax your name to me and I'll email the .jpg file back to you.

Ha!

Nick gave a great answer while I was writing out my instructions.  Doesn't look like he was too upset for spinning him around!

Rob's explanation was better..  i'm still a little dizzy!   I have another graphic to show off, but the image button is not uploading properly right now.

BTW< are you two family?

Posted by Nick M., Realtor-Appraiser in West Palm-South Florida Real Estate Appraiser (Certified Residential Appraiser- West Palm Beach Real Estate) over 12 years ago

Yes, I'm the wiser and older brother.  Ha!  Can't wait to see what the younger will come back with on that line!

Rob

I'm also better looking but like Nick said, the image uploader isn't working right now so I can't upload our baby pictures.

However, at present, he is selling a whole lot more houses than I am since I just started a little over a year ago as being licensed.  But watch out, one of these days...

To this Lucky will say, "Yeah, right!"

BTW (By the way), I keep forgetting this is an acronym blog.

TWAOABLBWPSFHTHYS

(The Wiser And Older And Better Looking Brother Who Presently Sells Fewer Houses Than His Younger Sibling)

"YR" (Lucky's response)

(Yeah, Right!)

(Sorry To Be Off Topic)

or simply

OT

(Off Topic)

COOL Link
We should come up with one just for real estate Listings and Loans Like TSK - Table space Kitchen - buyers ask me what TSK is all the time.
Posted by Debbie Cook, Silver Spring and Takoma Park Maryland Real Estate (Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc) over 12 years ago

Sorry everyone for the delay in responding! I am on vacation and don't have access everywhere to the net.

Nick: Thanks for the info and link for graphics.  I'm learning new stuff everyday!  Aren't computers great!?!

Rob: Thanks for the detailed response.  You know how I like to "crawl" first since, as you put it, you are my older and wiser (and more modest) brother.  As far as you selling more houses than me, well, as I told you when you started, I hope you do!  My sales goal is $10 million this year...how about you?  I have to support Laura's spending habits.

Debbie: Great idea!  I have never seen TSK used before. I wonder what other "brief-speaks" are lurking out there in real estate world?

Lucky :)
