You Know You're From The Quad Cities When...
You know what the phone number is for "Car Dead Call Fred"!
You refer to the Mississippi River as "The River"
You have to watch the paper to see which bridge would be best to get across "The River", since they are all are being worked on
You know that Joes, Franks, Shortys, Clints, and Nancy's are not names, but pizza places
You know that Whitey's is an Ice Cream place, not a racial term
You know that South Park is the name of a mall, not a television show
You know that Daisy Dooks is off of I-80, not a character on a television show
You know that Tuxedos is not a place you rent one from
You will stand in line for over an hour to buy "sculpted concrete"
You know that Milan is not pronounced like the one that is the fashion capital of the world
You know that "Magic Mountain" refers to a meal, not an amusement park ride
You use the term "Palmer" as a familiar landmark
You don't crash into a low clearance bridge driving on Brady or Harrison street
You know that pork is THE white meat, not THE OTHER white meat
You have used the phrase, "stupid Iowan" or "go back to Illinois"!
You have to dial long distance to call someone within sight across the river, but dial a local number for someone twenty minutes away
You know that the coming of spring mean that the Rock River WILL flood. Your house WILL be under water, and you're ok with it.
You measure distance in minutes, not in miles
You know what Taco Pizza is
You can name 2 dorks
You THINK you know what four cities make up the Quad Cities. No one really knows.
You know what Evel Knievel sounds like when he's mad
You hear someone say, "I'm on Kimberly" and you do not think it is something sexual
You can pay $14 for a round of golf
You know that the Slider run refers to getting burgers, not to running a race
You cannot see a White Castle restaurant for hours
You know that LUCKY LANG is the QUAD-CITIES FAVORITE REALTOR®

Don't let this great Real Estate buying opportunity pass you by!!!

What a great list! Brings back memories of Davenport and the Quad Cities.
Rudy's is a taco place and Harris' is the best pizza in the world!
Home of Hungry Hobo (like Subway only much nicer sandwich) and Maid-Rite (best loose meat sandwich in the world -- be sure to ask them to make it greasy and they will lift the lid on the other side where the grease drains off along with some of the hamburger -- mmmm mmmm good!!)
Another one to add would be that you know that you are in one of the very few places that the Mississippi runs east and west. That always confused people not from there that thought they were going north on River Road when they were going east.
What did our dad always say, "Crazy Illinois woman driver!!" to anyone that didn't drive right.
Where the toll bridge is still called the toll bridge even though they haven't charged a toll for many years.
Where sandbagging meant filling sand in bags to keep the flood waters back.
The Quad Cities is Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and Bettendorf. The confusion comes when they call it the Quint Cities and higher. You wonder which ones did they add. East Moline, Milan, Silvis, Eldridge, ... Either way it sure is a great metropolitan area for having a real estate career!
Yes the memories of seeing semi after semi getting the tops of the cabs and trailers peeled back from going under the low clearance bridges.
It is where "Five Points" means something to you.
But some of these like Daisy Dooks mean that I have been gone from the Quad Cities too long and don't know about them.
BTW, I miss White Castle! :)

Rob,
Good stuff for sure!
Have you noticed the new buttons on here?
Lucky :)
Yepper, getting rather busy isn't it?
Rob
Rob,
That was EXACTLY what I thought! At first look, I thought the "Rainmaker" symbol was some sort of symbol for a male.
Lucky :)
Good idea now I know the lingo when I pass through.
Lucky,
You will stand in line for over an hour to buy "sculpted concrete"... That deserves a post of its own; enquiring minds want to know!
Mike in Tucson
Lucky,
I know what standing in line for "sculpted concrete" means. I think I still have one or two of those, plus I have an Aunt back there that collects them :) And Rob just happened to mention two of my favorite places to eat. But, I am now bringing Harris pizza back home with me (half-baked, wrapped really good and on ice...then I just freeze it and pull it out when I need one! Unfortunately, they don't last that long!!!
And Maid-Rite, we just got one here at the Lake about 6 months ago...it went in at the Hy-Vee gas station! We finally got Hy-Vee down here about 4 years ago. I was very very happy to see them :)
I used to work in downtown Davenport, do you know how many trucks I saw stuck in the overpass? I never figured that one out?? How did these guys get their license?
Anyway, just reading your post brings a tear to my eye...even though I love the Lake of the Ozarks, the Quad Cities (Davenport) is in my heart!
Next time I'm in Davenport, I will try and stop in for a visit! Peggy, I miss the QC, Christopher
Terry,
Stop by anytime and we'll do lunch!
Lucky :)
Mike,
I've been trying to find time to do just that! This First Time Buyer's Program is keeping me VERY busy selling DAVENPORT IOWA REAL ESTATE!
Good to hear from you!
Lucky :)
Peggy,
Thanks for sharing! The other day on the national news they were making a big deal out of a truck that had driven under a low bridge and got stuck. I'm thinking.....this is NATIONAL news??? It happens here about once a month! :)
Love to have you stop by for a visit!
See you then!
Lucky :)
Had to come meet you after reading Matt's post about his first AR referral. Way to go!
Irene,
Thanks for stopping by! Now, by reading this post, you also have a little insight into the Quad Cities!
Take care,
Lucky :)
Lucky,
I came back to find out more about the Sculpted Concrete that would keep you standing in line for more than an hour. C'mon, buddy! Time for that post.
Mike in Tucson
